Cliche Verre

The practice of making Cliche Verres become a multifaceted ritual. After some initial tests using a made black mirror (see Enact In Disappearance) as the reflex in a handmade camera, I turned the ritual of making like the archaic objects had been conceived. I sculpted candles from unfiltered beeswax I got from apiaries near Richmond, VA. I hand dug holes in the ground and filled them with wax, let them set and harden in the ground. I started using these candles to make my own black mirror, which also is similar to print making method called Cliché Verre. During a morning ritual, I made the cliché verres after some moment of quiet, attempting to tap into a message outside of language. The small round glass plates became negatives for darkroom contact prints.
